Gameplay[]

The gameplay of Better Than Reality is timing based but not very difficult.

  • 0-6%: The first section of the level is a short cube part with a few timings. In this section, the player jumps on top of buildings while Terrorbyte looms in the background. A red square appears around the cube that says "ANALYZING". This refers to the way that Terrorbyte creates clones of the player in the next sections.
  • 7-23%: The next section is a pretty long wave part where the player must weave around objects. Terrorbyte creates clones of your wave which will spawn continuously throughout the part. The player will crash if they hit the wave clones. Terrorbyte stays in the background.
  • 24-40%: After the wave is a ball section with some simple timings. Terrorbyte will create clones of your ball instead which mirror your movements. Halfway through the section, the player changes to a cube and the clones follow suit. The cube section also has some simple timings. At the end of the cube, a spinning pinwheel effect is put around the player, and the background transitions.
  • 41-61: This section starts with a spider full of fast timings. The player must hit black orbs carefully to avoid crashing. The decoration of this part is themed around crystals which will move around on the top and bottom of the screen. Terrorbyte flies around in the background. During the last quarter of the section, the spider changes to a ship. The following ship section is very easy and only has a few obstacles. At the end of the ship part, Terrorbyte grabs the player and flies them upwards into a crystal which transitions to the next section.
  • 62-72%: The slow free-fly UFO section here is probably the hardest section of Better Than Reality. Very careful timings must be made to avoid crashing to sawblades. The section gives you indicators when to tap/click, which are white circles and orbs. Terrorbyte starts at the bottom of the background and flies up throughout the section.
  • 73-84%: This section is a slow ship segment that starts with a dual. The player needs to curve-fly to avoid hitting spikes. The second half of the section switches back to a single ship and involves flying around sloped holographic objects.
  • 85-94%: The final section of the level has the player hit three dash orbs in order with the music. Each dash orb attacks Terrorbyte. The first one cracks their screen, the second one causes their screen to display a "broken signal" error picture, and the third one destroys Terrorbyte, displaying an animation of the player going right through their screen, causing them to return to the size of a normal computer.
  • 95-100% (End Screen): The end screen takes place in the city. The name of the level is displayed in front of an outline of Terrorbyte. After the text disappears, Terrorbyte laughs and leaves the screen, ending the level.
