Gameplay[]
Broken Signal's gameplay involves tight timings and hitting orbs in sync with the song at fast speeds. The gameplay is broke up into phases, which can be seen in the level's editor.
- Phase 1: Working
- 0-6%: The first section of Broken Signal starts with a half-speed cube part full of tight orb timings. The speed increases to single-speed after a dash orb. The platforms in this section move around slightly and are designed to look technological.
- 7-11%: This section shares the same decoration style as the previous section, with more block motion. The entire section is a double-speed spider. In the middle of the section, red text appears on the top right reading, "An error occurred when restarting! Restarting..." printed several times.
- 12-14%: This section begins with a triple-speed ship part where the player must fly straight through spike-lined passages while changing gravity. After the ship is a UFO part with one timing and a dash orb. In the UFO part, the creator and the level's name is completely visible.
- Phase 2: Collapse
- 15-23%: The first drop section depicts a gray "no connection" error screen and has flashy glitch effects. The player must perform tight UFO timings with dots and orbs as guides. The UFO timings are also in sync with the song's beats. The text, "NO CONNECTION" flashes across the screen.
- 24-31%: This section starts off with tight ball timings while dodging moving obstacles. The player then becomes mini spider and must perform a few timings before returning to ball. The background of this section is glitchy and a play button briefly appears on the screen. After the second ball part, the player becomes a half-speed cube and must hit three pink orbs late to avoid crashing on spikes above. A network connection error symbol appears for a very short time before the next section begins.
- Phase 3: System Fallout
- 32-41%: This section starts with a tight triple-speed wave with a short mini wave spam in the middle. Afterwards is a cube part with some blue orbs the player must hit, before a UFO part with glitchy indicators. The final part in the section is a robot part with tight timings. The decoration of this part is very glitchy, with moving objects and backgrounds.
- 42-49%: After a quick transition with binary text, the player is put into a cube part. This cube part features orb timings and size changes. The section ends with a ship full of orbs before an automatic cube transition. The background of this section constantly moves and flashes.
- Phase 4: Corrupted
- 50-53%: This section begins consists of only half-speed wave where the player must go around spikes in cramped spaces and spam through the openings. The decoration of this part is flashy with the blocks showing wires.
- 54-58%: After the wave is a single-speed ship part with tight flying. The decoration of the part is corrupted screens and monitors. A temperature monitor appears in the top right starting at 35 degrees Celsius and ending at 125 degrees Celsius, showing that the technology is overheating. After the ship is a quick cube transition where the text "CATASTROPHIC FAILURE" appears. This section is similar to the beginning of Yatagarasu, without the fading effects and in a technologic style.
- Phase 5: Meltdown
- 59-76%: The first section of the second drop starts with a triple-speed ball and cube part containing many orbs that the player must press. The decoration of this section represents chaotic melting-down technology. Next is a much slower ship part where the obstacles "melt away". After this the level picks up speed again with a UFO and robot part with the same decoration as the ball and cube parts. The section ends with a single-speed cube and a "minimize" effect transition.
- 77-84%: This section starts with a triple-speed ship where the player must hold down on both green and pink dash orbs before going through some obstacles and changing gravity. A single-speed ball part follows before a short cube part. The cube hits a mirror portal and the blocks around the player turn into only question marks as the final section begins.
- Phase 6: Collapse Final
- 85-93%: The final section of the level starts with a double-speed cube part that quickly becomes a very short wave spam after a few timings. Another cube part follows, with many orb timings. As the cube part progresses, it becomes triple-speed as the background starts to display errors. Afterwards is a single-speed mini cube with three jumps: twice over a single spike and once over a double spike. After a final dash orb, the end screen appears.
- 94-100% (End Screen): The level's end screen is very flashy and dynamic, starting with a laser drawing the name of the level. Next the level's name appears as a container for the level's playtesters. The final screen displays the level's name and Grax's logo. The B, K, G, and A in the logo start to malfunction as the level ends.
