Critical Mass is a 1.9/2.0 Medium Demon created by Twoots, known as 6359 at the time. It is her first Demon created and is usually considered an Easy Demon. It is also one of her only featured and rated Demons, and during Update 2.0, she had added three unverified (bronze) user coins. The level decoration style somewhat resembles that of Theory of Everything 2 at certain parts.
Gameplay[]
- 0-9%: The level begins with a simple normal-speed cube section with a mostly green color scheme and some simple obstacles, save for one fake blue jump orb at 4%. Towards the end of this area, the player enters a short auto section, during which the creator's name, 6359_ (at the time), can be seen in a giant green blocky-like format.
- 10-18%: Next, the player enters a mini-ship sequence that features an orange color scheme, a small handful of tight spaces, fading saw-blades, and some gravity changes. Throughout this section are also black structures that resemble "monsters" which the player must fly through. At the conclusion of this area, at ~18%, the player enters a very short double-speed wave segment that requires very quick mashing skills to pass.
- 19-24%: Following this, the player quickly enters a half-speed ball segment that contains a pink color scheme and initially begins with some easy jump orb-based timings and a couple of size changes. Towards the end of this segment, however, there are a ton of yellow, pink, and blue jump orbs, which is signalled by a question mark (?) at ~23% and two yellow jump orbs right before it. Here, the player must memorize which jump orbs to hit and which ones to miss in order to clear it. This section is short, but it can easily throw off the player.
- 25-30%: Afterward, the player transitions into a memory-based cube section that contains a large number of fakes to confuse and throw them off, as well as an extremely short yet tricky cube maze towards the end.
- 31-33%: Next is a short but tricky UFO segment that bears resemblance to that of Theory of Everything 2. It features multiple moderate timings, gravity portals, and one size portal that all require a click pattern in order to clear.
- 34-36%: Then, the player returns to normal size and goes through a very short cube section that consists of simple jump orb jumps, along with a few saw-blade decorations.
- 37-40%: Right after this, there is a short but tricky mini-ship sequence that features numerous fading spikes and fading saw-blades that can be fairly difficult to sight-read. Again, the decoration throughout this section bears a strong resemblance to that of Theory of Everything 2.
- 41-44%: Following this, the player enters another cube section with several jump orb timings, simple jumps, and a few gravity changes here and there, all the while the music begins to build-up in the background.
- 45-54%: Afterward, the music beat drops, and the player transitions into a wave segment that initially begins in double-speed, then proceed to transition through several sizes and speed portals in an attempt to throw them off. Throughout this entire section are also several fairly tight spaces and color palette changes, as well as multiple saw-blade obstacles towards the end.
- 55-58%: Next, there is a tricky triple-speed UFO segment that features a couple of gravity changes and several spiky pillar obstacles. Right afterward, the player enters a short half-speed mini-ship sequence that contains numerous fading saw-blades which may be tricky to avoid.
- 59-65%: Then, the player goes through a wave segment that initially begins in half-speed then transitions through a few speed and gravity changes, as well as a very short dual section at 63%. This entire section also features lots of fairly tight spaces to throw off the player. Afterward, the player enters an auto double-speed cube section that only contains a few star decorations.
- 66-70%: Afterward, there is a double-speed ship sequence that contains lots of fading saw-blades and several structures that resemble "monsters" that the player must fly through. This section also features a large number of white circle decorations that serve to guide them.
- 71-76%: Following this, the player transitions into a tricky double-speed mini-wave segment that features one size portal and lots of tall spiky obstacles that must be maneuvered around. It also contains a large monster-like structure with two eyes that appear to briefly follow them, a couple of exclamation mark decorations (!), and several fading saw-blades located towards the end.
- 77-81%: Next is a tricky double-speed cube section that features a blue color scheme and consists of a small handful of jump orbs, albeit only in the first half. Here, the player must memorize which jump orbs to hit and which ones to miss in order to clear it. Afterward, the player enters a gravity portal and must clear a six-spike jump in double-speed, with the first and last two spikes being small ones and the middle two being normal-sized ones.
- 82-86%: After clearing a jump over a small pit, the player transitions into a double-speed UFO segment that consists of a red color scheme and multiple cube-like obstacles of varying sizes that must be avoided, though it is also possible to slide on top of them. At 85%, the player goes through a tricky double-speed ship sequence that also boasts a red color scheme but also features numerous small cube-like obstacles and several fading spikes on the top and bottom. Here, the player must memorize which ones are real and which ones are fake and can be flown through in order to clear this area, which may be fairly difficult to sight-read.
- 87-100%: Finally, the player enters a short auto half-speed cube section, then quickly transitions into one final triple cube section that contains a green color scheme. It also primarily consists of simple jump orb-based timings, a few gravity changes, and a couple of fakes. Finally, the player must jump into a small one-block-wide gap between two thin pillars to end the level.
User coins[]
- The first user coin is located at 15%, in the first mini-ship sequence. The player must fly "below" an invisible gear to collect it. The narrow maneuver makes this coin mildly challenging to get, but not too difficult.
- The second user coin is located at 44%; once the player gets past the gravity portal, they must not hit the yellow jump orb to acquire the second coin. Instead, they must time the jump into the gravity portal carefully beforehand – otherwise, they might hit the saw-blade behind the coin instead and crash in the process.
- The third and final user coin is located at 60% and is the hardest one to get; the player must maneuver the wave into a fake spike to reach the small space with the coin, then quickly pull back up to meet the second fake spike.
Trivia[]
- The password for the level is 666666.
- The level contains 14,552 objects.
- According to Twoots's level description, Critical Mass was made by a request from Nasgubb.
- There is a secret at 20%, where the player can pass below the ball portal. There is a short message that reads "SKILLZ!" and numerous triple spikes.
- There is a bug at 76%, where the player can pass below the cube portal and skip that portion entirely (until around 82%).
- The song used for the level, Haunted, was also the outro of a well-known YouTuber, Markiplier.
