Ocular Miracle (also known as The Ocular Miracle Trilogy, abbreviated as OM) is a 2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration hosted by GaidenHertuny, ZeroSR and Davphla. It includes many skilled creators. It was previously set to be verified by SrGuillester, but he dropped it after a lack of motivation. The verification was then given to Technical, who verified it on June 11, 2020. This level was made by 41 people and took six months to create. It was rated for a short amount of time on June 12, 2020. However, it was later unrated because of its size, as the game will crash on most devices when attempting to play it. Due to this, the Ocular Miracle team decided to split it into three separate levels, called Reverie, Faith and Diligence, which are all rated. This project is one of the biggest mega-collaborations in Geometry Dash.

History[]

On September 30, 2017, GaidenHertuny uploaded a video named 'Imagine If... (READ DESC)'. The video showcased many creators he wanted to be in an upcoming mega-collaboration that he said would be an 'Ocular Miracle'. It had some famous creators, such as WOOGI1411, knobbelboy, TrusTa and more. The video description said that SrGuillester, AZuLer, Sh4rkyGD, Lithifusion, Metalface221, Makaron, Mactanow and Tide were already participating in it.[1]

Makaron[2] and GaidenHertuny[3] uploaded videos of the gameplay of their respective parts on October 3, 2017, giving viewers the first look into the level. Over the next couple of days, creators began uploading layouts of their parts to YouTube, and on October 16, GaidenHertuny uploaded a layout montage of all the parts released. It revealed that the level was meant to be five and a half minutes long and an Extreme Demon with lots of unique gameplay, gathering a bit of hype for the level.[4]. Also, this level is about its creator's sister going to the moon and back, hence its name.

Viewers finally got to see some of the decoration of the level on October 27 when Makaron uploaded a video of his part, now decorated by Lucasyecla99. It was at the second drop of the song and featured many moving objects and colours, on top of being extremely detailed.[5]

At this point, BionicPenguin did not have a decorator for his part, so GaidenHertuny and Sh4rkyGD hosted a Creator Contest on November 4 for designing his part.[6] That same day, Metalface221 had released the decoration of his part during the buildup to the first drop. The description noted that the theme was space and the decoration did not exactly follow it.[7]

Time passed, and on November 15, Sh4rkyGD released the full layout montage to YouTube (including Metalface221 and Makaron's decorated parts). The video showed that Sh4rkyGD and Deso's parts had completely different gameplay, AZuLer and Vapen (who never released their gameplay) were replaced by TrusTa and UnErVe, respectively, and the finished parts of SrGuillester and Xaro.[8]

Over the next couple of weeks, players began releasing their entries to the Ocular Miracle creator contest and creating fan-made parts (which would later become a minor trend). On December 4, Tide released some of Angryboy0644's decoration of his part, which was very similar to that of Lucasyecla99's decoration for Makaron's part (probably because they were both at the drops).[9] This started gaining even more hype for the level.

The results of the creator contest were released on December 12, and it was entirely made up of creators considered unnoticed and underrated. Fifth place was Geogamer12, fourth was DoTory, third was GeometryTom, second was xXNoobSlayerXx, and the winner was Deovise, one of the only ones who primarily focused on the space theme.[10]

The first monthly progress report of Ocular Miracle was released two days later by GaidenHertuny, showcasing the decoration and new members of the mega-collaboration. The video showed that ArceusN1, Jozhii, Zhander and Naruzae joined as decorators for the level. In the end, a message was shown revealing that there was no intention for Ocular Miracle to be the new hardest Demon, but rather the most enjoyable. It also showed that SrGuillester was verifying and that the song was not on Newgrounds.[11]

There was not much activity around the level except for players creating fan-made parts until Wisp uploaded his part to YouTube on December 30, revealing that Lithifusion had quit Geometry Dash and the mega-collaboration. Hours later, Angryboy0644 released a second preview showcasing some more decoration for Tide‘s part.[12]

As the new year began, Brittank88 showed the progress of his decoration of JonathanGD's part on January 2, 2018.[13] Ten days later, GeometryTom, who formerly had entered the creator contest, uploaded some of his decoration to Wisp's part, indirectly revealing that he is the decorator in the process.[14]

The second monthly progress report was posted two days later, showing Lithifusion's aforementioned quitting, Zhander's departure, TurtleBro replacing Zhander, HelpegasuS joining to decorate the second half of Deso's part and some of the decoration of the parts.[15]

On February 9, 2018, Xyl uploaded the layout of his part. In the video description, he revealed that knobbelboy's part had been split in half by the group's decision, with the part given to Xyl and the second half offered to someone else.[16] knobbelboy later announced that he left the mega-collaboration, with his part now being entirely removed. Koolboom now occupies the part and is being decorated by Zimnyte.

The third monthly progress video was released on February 16, showing the decision to split knobbelboy's part in half, Aquatias and Salaxium joining the mega-collaboration, HaydOS and BionicPenguin's new parts, some of TurtleBro's decoration of TrusTa's part, AngryBoy's finished decoration of Tide's part and more.[17]

One of the most notable parts of the video would be the announcement of the Ocular Miracle Conquest. Since EXiT This Earth's Atomosphere by Camellia (the level's song) was not on Newgrounds, there needed to be a replacement song for the level for players who could not switch song files.

There was no monthly progress video for March due to the lack of progress on the level.

The fourth monthly progress video was uploaded to YouTube on April 17, 2018.[18] It announced the winner of the Ocular Miracle Contest, which was I Like Perfect by Haxory and submitted by TriTron.[19] This contest eventually proved useless, however, as the actual song was eventually uploaded to Newgrounds by one of Camellia's friends, as they were given permission. It also showed the new members of the mega-collaboration, some more finished decoration, along with showing a new and unique feature that would be implemented in future progress reports; the percentage completion. It showed the amount of progress that was done on each part by percentage as well as showing the total level completion percentage.

Exactly one month later, SrGuillester recorded a run of 75-100%. In the video description, he said that he would nerf it more to make it more enjoyable. He also reassured everyone that they do not want to make the new hardest possible Extreme Demon.[20]

The fifth and final monthly progress video was uploaded to YouTube on August 3, 2018. It revealed the new leaders of the mega-collaboration, Angryboy and Wombat. It also reassured people that SrGuillester would be set to verify the level.[21]

On November 15, 2018, SrGuillester uploaded what appears to be the final preview of Ocular Miracle, meant to commemorate the first anniversary of the Ocular Miracle Layout Montage.[22] Five days later, ZeroSR released a video showcasing his second official decoration part in the level. In the video description, he said that his part used ~20,000 objects and his style used in the level was 100% inspired by Jozhii's style and technique.[23]

On December 5, Unnerve released a video showcasing his finished decoration of the level.[24] About two weeks later, on December 17, Zafkiel7 released a video showcasing his finished decoration of SrGuillester's part of the level.[25] On December 28, Adelx released a video showcasing his finished art for Zafkiel7's part in the level.[26] About three months later, on March 7, 2019, Metalface221 released a video showcasing the updated decoration of his part in the level.[27] On March 29, 2019, Scrumpy released a video showcasing his decoration of the second half of TrusTa's part in the level. [28] Less than a week later, on April 5, 2019, Salaxium released a video showcasing his finished part in the level. On April 30, 2019, Sequex released a video showcasing his finished decoration of Xyl's gameplay.[29] On June 8, 2019, HJfod released a video showcasing his and Brittank88's decoration of JonathanGD's gameplay. [30]

On March 18, 2020, GaidenHertuny released a full montage of the decorated level. [31]

After the level was finished, SrGuillester officially started to try verifying Ocular Miracle. On March 23, 2020, five days after the level was finished, he got 45%,[32] and two days later, he got 62%.[33] However, for nearly two months, he did not make any progress until May 10, 2020, when he got 85%.[34] But unfortunately, SrGuillester dropped the level about a week later due to a loss of motivation. GaidenHertuny then gave the verification to Technical.[35] The first progress he made was a 39-100% run on the level,[36] then 60%.[37] A little bit after this, Technical got 91%.[38] After the 91% fail, he started a seven-hour stream, getting 91% again and 96%. (He has stated that this stream was the most upset he has ever gotten over Geometry Dash).[39] On Thursday, June 11, 2020, one day after 96%, he started a new stream and shockingly verified it in under an hour, 15 minutes after a 98% fail.

Unrating and Split[]

After the June 11 verification, Ocular Miracle took almost 24 hours to upload to the GD servers, according to Technical, with the High Detail version uploaded to Davphla's account and the Ultra Low Detail version uploaded to Technical's account. Soon after, the level was rated Extreme Demon by RobTop. Right away, however, some players started to experience bugs that only happen with levels that have incredibly high object counts. The level, when finally loaded, did not load any of the objects and thus became a free extreme demon. Another bug with other low-end devices would cause the level to interfere with the coding of the game, which caused game-breaking glitches and unnatural texture deficiencies. As a result, RobTop had to unrate Ocular Miracle after just 30 minutes of being rated.

For the following two weeks, the Ocular Miracle team met to decide how best to get the level rated. They considered a few options. They considered either making the ULDM version official or splitting the level into three separate levels. Eventually, they decided to split the level, and Davphla set to work on reworking the level into three separate parts, titled Reverie, Faith and Diligence.[40]

On June 26, 2020, Technical started another stream and reverified and bug-fixed all three parts after about two hours.[41] Finally, on June 27, 2020, all three levels were uploaded to the GD servers, with Reverie on GaidenHertuny's account, Faith on ZeroSR's account and Diligence on Davphla's account. They were all rated on June 30, 2020, and are still rated to this day.

The original, full Ocular Miracle High Detail version and the ULDM version still exist on Davphla's and Technical's accounts, respectively, for players wanting to try the full level.

Note: Reverie, Faith and Diligence split it into three separate levels in any percentage are italicised.

Reverie[]

  • 0-5%/0-20% (Peroxide01 + Isane): The level starts with a single-speed cube section with some small timings and tricky paths before going into a small quadruple-speed ship section that is mainly a transition. Next is a single-speed mini-UFO section with a few gravity switches and timings before another quadruple-speed dash orb. The dash orb leads into a mini dual section with a few small timings and transitions between the ball, wave and ship before another spider and ball part with extreme timings and orb mazes. After that is a double-speed UFO part that has many gravity changes.
  • 5-9%/21-33%(Sh4rkyGD + iMasu): The next part is slightly faster and more intense, containing short gameplay segments in many game-modes, some being auto. It starts with a short wave section, then goes into a UFO in which the player must click once, then a ball where they need to hit the blue orb, followed by a mini-ship part. Afterwards is a short swing-copter section in which only two clicks are needed before hitting the yellow orb to proceed. Following that is a mini-ship, then a ball, then a robot section, each being quick and short. Next is a UFO and wave section, where the player must use a dash orb to go through at the correct angle. Finally, the last part of this section is a UFO and cube spam segment.
  • 9-15%/34-56% (Mactanow + Reunomi): The first section of this part is faster and brighter, containing short gameplay segments in many game-modes, starting with a short cube where using all orbs are required. It then goes into a one-click UFO, then another cube section, a little wave, a mini-ship with gravity switches, a cube transition where hitting the orb in the portal is required to proceed, a ball part where good timing is required, another UFO with a gravity change and a cube where the blue orb and the dash orb must be used. Short segments in all game-modes with the level getting into quadruple-speed follow this before getting to a cube spam part leading to the calm section. The calm section is darker and mainly contains moderately difficult ship gameplay with gravity portals and dash orbs, interrupted by two easy yet short cube parts.
  • 15-17%/57-65% (TrusTa + Manix648 + Nahuel2998): Here it gets bright again, containing mostly cube and ship parts with difficult timings and fake ways in the following pattern: cube, ship, cube, spider, ship.
  • 17-19%/66-73% (Scrumpy + TrusTa): This part is less bright and a bit easier than the previous. It starts with a moderate cube containing fake orbs and portals, followed by a UFO with many gravity switches and then a ship section with gravity portals and a speed-up leading to the next part.
  • 19-22%/74-81% (Deso + ZeroSR): Possibly the most iconic part of Ocular Miracle, but also one of the shortest. This section starts with a glow-intensive quadruple-speed ship section in which the player must manoeuvre under a large spinning wheel of spikes for about four song beats, then enter a short straight-fly. Next is a slow cube section with synced orb timings, slopes and dash orbs that all sync perfectly with the song. During the last dash orb transition, the letter Z for ZeroSR, the part's decorator, pops onto the screen behind the player.
  • 22-24%/82-92% (HelpegasuS + Deso): HelpegasuS' part contains the same colours as TrusTa's, leaving the white again. The part starts with a double-speed cube part with some tricky orbs, followed by a short UFO with many gravity changes. A moderate yet short robot section with a bit of timing continues the level, succeeded by a tricky wave, a cube transition and a ship leading to the end of the level.
  • 92-100% (???): The level ends by displaying its title, Reverie.

Faith[]

  • 25-31%/0-16% (Metalface221): This part starts kind of dark with a fairly easy cube, then goes into a straight-fly ship transition followed by a ball with orbs and slopes. This goes into another transition, this time a mini-wave, then a UFO with some gravity portals, then another mini-wave, then a cube with orbs and an upside-down ship in retro style leading to the buildup of the song, containing a cube with many orbs and portals, a wave-cube dual, a tricky ship, also with many orbs and portals, leading to the drop.
  • 31-39%/27-36% (Tide + AngryBoy): This part starts with the drop, containing mostly dual gameplay with different game-modes, a bit being auto. The dual gameplay gets regularly interrupted by single gameplay parts, often cube and spider.
  • 39-43%/37-46% (Koolboom + Zimnyte):
  • 43-47%/47-57% (Xyl + Sequex):
  • 47-52%/57-69% (Jhreen + Salaxium + Surge):
  • 52-55%/70-76% (ZeroSR + Jhreen):
  • 55-59%/77-87% (JonathanGD + Brittank88):
  • 60-64%/88-98% (Brittank88 + HJfod + JonathanGD):
  • 98-100% (Nyzerlux): The level ends with a green planet, the ends with the level title, Faith.

Diligence[]

  • 64-68%/0-11% (Ilrell + Adelx):
  • 68-72%/12-23% (Makaron + Lucasyecla99):
  • 72-75%/23-31% (Pennutoh + Ownbit):
  • 75-80%/32-45% (SrGuillester + Zafkiel): This part is commonly seen as the best part of the level in terms of decoration and the worst part of the level in terms of gameplay because it is mostly a fast dual. The part starts with a detailed transition featuring SrGuillester and Zafkiel's names. After that, the gameplay begins with a very confusing ship dual but quickly becomes a spammy UFO and spider. Directly next to that are two cube portals, and the player must try to hit two dash orbs extremely swiftly as they are taken into a wave-ball spam segment. Finally, to end the first half of this part, the player has to do two mini-ship timings. The part then transitions to the second half of the part. Fortunately, this section does not have as many game-mode switches. It begins with a decently tight straight fly on the top with some spike jumps in the cube on the bottom. Eventually, the cube goes to the top, and the ship goes to the bottom and repeats what they did before. After this, both game modes briefly become cubes, and the player has to hit three orbs before they both get turned into balls. This short ball segment contains two orbs before being transferred into a non-dual segment as a mini-cube. This mini-cube ends off the part and contains a bit of spam before going into a very brief auto.
  • 80-84%/46-57% (Xaro + Lucasyecla99):
  • 84-88%/57-68% (GaidenHertuny + Delta):
  • 88-93%/69-80% (Unerve):
  • 93-95%/81-86% (BionicPenguin + Ji):
  • 95-98%/86-95% (Brittank88 + iNeo):
  • 98-100%/95-100% (Firsvii, End-Screen): In the final part, the names of the builders, decorators and the dedications are displayed, along with mentions of the host Gaiden, the verifier Technical and the publisher/playtester Davphla. It also shows the art of three planets with the words Ocular Miracle/Diligence. In Diligence, it can be found at 'Fixed and merged by Davphla'.
