Do you believe the myths of the golden city? Do you dare look for the immeasurable wealth within?

―LmAnubis

El Dorado is a 2.0 solo Insane Demon created, verified, and published by LmAnubis. It is a harder remake of Acropolis with a different color scheme and 2.0 design. The level features a green colour scheme meant to resemble a jungle theme, and very tight spaces and confusing amounts of portals that make it resemble Acropolis. It also features the universal half-speed throughout the level that Acropolis shares.

An Extreme Demon inspired by this level, The Golden, was created by Bo and verified by nSwish on 17 April 2020.

Gameplay[]

  • 0-11%: The level starts at normal speed with a quick speed change to half-speed in a mini ball segment. This section is incredibly tight with tricky timings and contains several difficult spaces and orb placements.
  • 12-22%: Next, the player enters a mini UFO segment that features a large handful of moving objects, tight spaces, gravity changes, and crucial timings. The UFO segment concludes with an auto section at 20%, but it may become buggy on rare occasions and cause the player to crash.
  • 23-45%: Afterward, it goes into a regular-sized half-speed wave segment. The spacing here is even tighter, and moving objects are still there. Halfway through, at ~35%, the wave becomes mini. Here, more moving objects and very tight spaces combined with the clunkiness of the mini-wave make this segment incredibly difficult.
  • 46-68%: The next segment is a long mini-ship sequence with numerous gravity portals, orb timings, and straight fly segments, making this probably the hardest section of the level along with the mini-wave segment. At 64%, the player briefly enters dual-mode and must contend with more timings before returning to single-mode at 67%.
  • 69-100%: Following this, the player transitions into one final mini-cube section featuring a shallow water effect on the ground, which is probably the second easiest segment, along with the mini-ball segment. However, it contains numerous fake lines and spike layouts equivalent to getting over triple spikes, making it a hard section to end the level. This section requires immense memorization skills to clear. Finally, the level ends upon passing the text "AncientAnubis" (LmAnubis' old name).

User coins[]

The level has three user coins. The difficulty of the level is relatively high, so the user coins can be irritating to get with the already high difficulty of the level itself.

  1. The first user coin is located at 26% in the first wave segment. It can be obtained if the player takes the upward path with the wave. However, this passage is tight and has spikes lining the "monster" mouth.
  2. The second user coin is initially located at 47% at the beginning of the mini ship sequence. To collect it, the player must drop down to obtain a yellow key at 47% at the bottom of the level. This yellow key brings down the user coin to ~48%, where the player hits an invisible yellow pad that brings them back on the regular route.
  3. The third and final user coin is located at 87% in the middle of the final cube section. To collect it, after hitting a yellow pad, the player must not hit one of the normally required blue orbs, and they will go down a secretive path that takes them to the third coin via a yellow pad. The game teleports the player back on course after this.

Trivia[]

  • The password for the level is 064701.
  • The level contains 8,879 objects.
  • The level is 1m 0s in length.
  • The whole level is entirely in half speed (0.5 speed), showing how a half-speed level can be very hard.
    • Other levels that feature this are Acropolis and Hatred.
  • SrGuillester was the first person confirmed to complete El Dorado on October 9, 2015.[1]
  • GuitarHeroStyles completed the level on February 23, 2016, fluking it from 27%.[2]
  • Michigun beat this on mobile on January 16, 2016. It remains his greatest achievement.[3]
  • El Dorado translates to 'The Golden' in English, hence the name of the more difficult remake, The Golden.
  • In real life, El Dorado was the term used by the Spanish Empire to describe a mythical tribal chief (zipa) of the Muisca native people in the then Spanish colonial province of Colombia, who, as an initiation rite, covered himself with gold dust and submerged in Lake Guatavita. The legends surrounding El Dorado changed over time, as it went from being a man to a city, to a kingdom, and then finally to an empire.[4]
