―Digitalight

pointzero (also styled as .0) is a 2.1 Insane Demon mega-collaboration hosted by Ilrell, published by Digitalight, and verified by Golden. Ever since its release, numerous community members have enjoyed it for its modernistic style. Ilrell has stated that the theme of the level is "reunion", as he gathered many 2.0 effect creators who had inspired him to build in the past.[1]

History[]

pointzero began development on December 22, 2018.[1] Ilrell initially planned this level as a 0% planning mega-collaboration, which is shown in the first preview that was released on his channel on May 21, 2019. There were five creators that joined at the start: the host, Rekiii, Whitehead, Onnikonna, and Digitalight. Shortly after development started, however, pointzero died due to inactivity after Onnikonna and Digitalight dropped out of the collab.[2] The level lay dormant for three to four months.

It was not until April 2nd of 2019 that the level was revived. Around that time period, many famous creators joined pointzero at the same time. After the unexpected arrival of many, Ilrell decided to change the level's idea from a collaboration with no planning to an "off the top of your head" freestyle collaboration. The new plan also required creators to build their parts in order instead of having creators simultaneously build their parts to create some sort of cypher (in hip hop). The reason behind this new plan is just because Ilrell liked the idea, so he wanted to apply it in pointzero.[3]

Ilrell announced around August 2019 that the level was halfway done.[4] He was originally hoping for a release somewhere from April to May 2020, but many creators wanted to redo their parts and other creators joined.[5] It is also possible that Ilrell extended the level to fit more creators, since the second preview didn't include any gameplay past the part that FunnyGame decorated in the final level. Some creators that were probably added after the second preview were Jeyzor and AbstractDark, as they both had recently returned to the game around mid-2020.

Around the time that the level was almost finished it was highly unoptimized and Ilrell had trouble merging the parts, so Ilrell got Digitalight to help with merging and Verticallity to help with optimization.[1] The level was finished and uploaded on Viprin's channel on October 20th, 2020, but it was verified and uploaded on October 31st since optimization wasn't finished yet.

The level was featured very soon after release, but similar to Ocular Miracle, the level had loading bugs because of the high object count, so RobTop unrated the level. However, he rerated the level not long after with only a star rate.[6]

Gameplay[]

  • 0-2% (Ilrell): The level begins with a mini-robot part at normal-speed. His part contains some orb timings that generally do not take too long to learn and get consistent at. This part also has a mini-spider, a mini-UFO, and a mini-ball segment.
  • 2-5% (Rekiii): His part starts after the mini-ball part in Ilrell's section. The main game modes are the normal-sized cube and the mini-wave. The three cube parts have a few timings here, and while the first wave is less than a second in length, the second wave is longer and it requires seven clicks in order for players to pass this part, with a counter at the bottom right corner.
  • 5-7% (Whitehead): His part begins with a tricky cube section with a size change and a couple of gravity changes and jump orb timings, then an extremely short mini-ship sequence. Following this, the player enters a cube transition and goes through a short wave segment in which they must dodge spikes in narrow spaces. This part concludes with another cube section with a few more jump orb timings as the screen fades to black.
  • 7-10% (Vrymer): His part is comprised of a difficult cube section that features multiple gravity, size, and speed changes. It also contains numerous tricky jump orb timings, one of which is positioned inside of a gravity portal.
  • 10-13% (G4lvatron): Following this, the player transitions into an orange-colored area that starts with a double-speed mini-cube section comprised of many tight spaces, timings, and a few saw-blade decorations. Next, there is a short mini-ship sequence that features a couple of tricky timings, during which the player can also see G4lvatron's name "GALVA" at the bottom. Afterward, it transitions into a difficult mini-UFO segment that consists of a few tricky jump orb timings and then a gravity change. Finally, the player goes through one final mini-cube section where they must jump over a pair of spikes, both of which are of different sizes, then enter an auto section as the screen goes black.
  • 13-15% (Penttagram): His part features a simple normal-speed mini-UFO segment comprised of a black background, numerous small structures, and small spikes that can be easily avoided. It also contains some fairly tight spaces, a couple of gravity portals, and some gear decorations.
  • 15-19% (Xenoteric): Afterward, the music beat drops and the player enters a triple-speed cube section with a couple of quick orb timings. Next, the player transitions into a short mini-wave and UFO segment containing a couple of large saw-blades and a gravity portal in the latter. Following this, there is a fast-paced and tricky cube section that is comprised of more orb timings, then a ball segment that contains a fake path marked with a question mark (?) and a black orb timing. Note that the player must jump right before entering the ball portal to avoid crashing.
  • 19-22% (Verticallity): Vertically's part consists of a triple-speed mini-cube section that features unique line-based decoration and starts out with several fast-paced orb timings, some of which are actually the wrong color. About halfway through, the player enters normal-speed and must contend with a black orb and a couple of dash orb timings while avoiding a line of blue gravity orbs.
  • 22-25% (Arachnus): Following this is Arachnus's part, which contains a fairly short double-speed cube section with a large number of orb-based timings, a couple of gravity portals, and gravity changes via green orbs. Toward the end of the section, the player enters normal-speed as the screen fades to white and then to black.
  • 25-27% (HotoCot): Next up is HotoCot's part, which features bright decoration as well as several custom-made portals and orbs. It begins with a half-speed cube section consisting of one simple orb jump, then rapidly transitions into a short ship sequence with a few quick gravity changes. Next is another cube section with one green jump orb, then the section ends off with a tricky UFO segment that features many rapid gravity changes through the use of portals. Finally, the screen fades to white as the player advances to the next area.
  • 27-30% (Zipper): After that is Zipper's part, which begins with an easy double-speed ship sequence consisting of several bright effects and a bright background with a constantly changing color scheme, as well as a pair of gravity and teleportation portals. However, it also features an abundance of tiny spikes and arrows that guide the player through the area. His part concludes with a short and easy cube section with a blue gravity portal and a couple more orb timings.
  • 30-34% (Reunomi): Reunomi's space-themed part consists of a difficult triple-speed cube section with an absurd number of various jump and dash orb timings, as well as lots of gravity changes. Afterward, the player transitions into a fast-paced ship sequence featuring a couple of gravity and size portals, then his part ends with an auto cube section where the screen quickly fades to black.
  • 34-35% (Stamina): Next is Stamina's part, which is a short and simple half-speed ship sequence containing lots of wide open spaces, slow-moving structures, and a yellow gravity portal about halfway through. At the end, the player returns to normal gravity via a blue gravity portal as the screen rapidly fades to black again.
  • 35-38% (Dashtrict): Right after this, the player transitions to Dashtrict's part, which speeds up to normal-speed and initially continues the ship gameplay from the previous area, this time with a few saw-blades and a rotated yellow gravity portal. Next is a tricky ball segment that has a pink dash orb timing and a few more saw-blades; this time, these obstacles rapidly appear and disappear out of the floor and ceiling. Finally, the player must clear a triple spike jump via a blue gravity portal and then clear one last easy double-speed ship part as this segment concludes.
  • 38-41% (Digitalight): After this comes Digitalight's part, which is a double-speed cube section featuring a black and white color scheme. It begins with the player having to jump across platforms and contend with a few orb timings and gravity changes inside of large decorative gears. About halfway through, they vanish and the player must now jump across regular pillars and deal with a few more orb timings, one of which is a blue gravity orb and is located right on top of a pillar and right next to a white spike. Hit the green dash orb and watch the screen go black to end this area.
  • 41-44% (MenhHue): After a short background transition, MenhHue's part begins. The part is a long spider section featuring many slopes and pads. The player must time their inputs to avoid crashing.
  • 44-46% (Thomartin): Thomartin's part starts out as a spider just like the previous part, but switches to cube after a few timings. The part features orbs that must to hit to pass the part as well as tight timings on the edge of platforms. After the cube, the player returns to spider and then returns to cube again. The background of this part flashes from purple to black and then yellow.
  • 46-50% (Darwin): Darwin's part is a triple speed ship section. The objects and background of this part are rainbow-colored and pulse as the player progresses. The first three-quarters of the part feature semi-straight flying and teleport portals. The last quarter of the part is very wide and is in mini ship form.
  • 50-52% (Olympic): This part is mostly free flying through a black and green section with text on the bottom saying "Oly" for the shortened name of the creator.
  • 52-54% (FunnyGame): FunnyGame (the old FunnyGame) has a ship section featuring a mini-boss. Saws will shoot miniature saws at the player with they must avoid as they progress through the red-sloped part. After the first saw shoots twice, another saw appears, which shoots along with the first saw twice afterwards. After that, a much bigger saw with a skull on it shoots a stream of miniature saws starting from the top and going toward the bottom. To get past the stream of minature saws, the player must slide along the bottom of the part until the section ends.
  • 54-57% (Haru): His part is a long triple speed mini wave. During this part, the player must maneuver the mini wave to dodge the triangle shaped obstacles. The name "HyperFlame" appears during this part, as that was his previous name.
  • 57-61% (Jeyzor): Jeyzor's part is a rainbow colored double speed wave section with cloud platforms. The first half is normal size wave and the second half is mini wave and also in triple speed. During this part, the player must slide on top and on bottom of the cloud platforms as well as hold down on several dash orbs.
  • 61-65% (5quid): 5quid's part only contains normal size ball and mini ball. The part features no flat platforms; all of the platforms are curved. Some gameplay features, such as the fast mini ball with many required inputs, might be inspired by babinga 8 the snow.
  • 65-69% (Tronzeki): Tronzeki's part has a flashy blue background and interesting effects. The gameplay includes ship, UFO, and ball parts with many orbs and gravity portals. It's worth noting that all of the orbs in this part look very similar as there is a custom texture put over them. The section ends with a dash orb.
  • 69-73% (Edge): Edge's part is a simple ball part with orbs to hit. Many platforms in this part are sloped.
  • 73-76% (Nainteils): Nainteils' part begins with a dual cube that quickly becomes an asymmetrical cube and ball dual. Then, the cube and ball fall into the same wave portal, creating a wave portal with both waves in normal gravity. After that the dual ends and the player must do some timings with the following wave, robot, and UFO sections. Nainteils' part is mainly black and white except for the colorful background, and all the orbs and portals in the part are custom.
  • 76-81% (Partition): Partition's part is pink and cyan and is very reminiscent of his level Soda. The part has simple cube and spider timings, as well as a UFO section with moving obstacles. A pink animated overlay obcsures the far left and right of the screen, giving the player less time to react.
  • 81-85% (iZinaD4sh): iZina's part is full of unusual-shaped blocks and sloped platforms, with an animated background. The player must hit some orbs and jump off of the sloped platforms. The objects of this part are very active and give the impression that they are floating.
  • 85-87% (Hyenada): This part begins with a white background and a platform the player stands on for a short moment. The level rhythmically transitions from the black and white color scheme and the platform into a purple and green color scheme with Hyenada's usual design. The rest of his part is a relatively easy UFO. The decoration is in a parallax effect consisting of 5 layers: the foreground with the design and gameplay, some clouds, glowing stars, large, pulsating connectors, and the background with squares in grids popping back and forth to the beat.
  • 87-91% (AbstractDark): His part starts with a fast robot part, UFO, then cube, a faster spider, and ends with a cube part at 2x speed. The last three jumps are not brutal and merciless, but it is easy to die there if players are nervous by the time they arrive to AbstractDark's part. The design and the saws resembles some of his early 2.1 decoration, and the background has a circle and stripes that pulsates with the beat. The part transitions to the credits by swelling into a bright light.
  • 91-100% (Zalspr + Rekiii, End Art + Credits): The screen flashes from white to orange and shows the list of all creators that participated, plus extra credits. The background appears as a crowded city with tall, futuristic buildings, along with additional details like a billboard, many wires, and pipes and signs sticking out of those buildings. After the list of creators was done rolling, the background fades to black, and the extra credits appear. The level ends with a message, "reverence to the reference."
