Boy of the Cones (abbreviated as BOTC, BoyoftheCones in-game, dubbed ConeBoy in Sea's rant video) is a popular American player, level creator, moderator, and former hacker in Geometry Dash. Boy of the Cones is notorious for a number of incidents involving the game, including hacking his level Catabath seven times,[2] unabashed begging RobTop to rate his levels, and lying about being an in-game moderator. Most recently, the rating of his level Buff This was severely rebuked, with critics claiming it to be one of the worst rated levels in the game.

Apart from his controversies, he has beaten numerous extremely difficult levels in the game including Cataclysm[3], Red World Rebirth[4], aftermath[5], Sakupen Hell[6], Infernal Abyss[7], Auditory Breaker[8], Digital Descent[9], Yatagarasu[10], Sonic Wave[11] and Sonic Wave Rebirth, which is his current hardest beaten level.[12]

Conflicts[]

  • Buff This Drama: On November 2017, Boy of the Cones' latest level, Buff This - a level which gameplay only consists of straight-flying, gets rated; prompting an enourmous amount of hate and backlash from the amateur creating community.[13]

History[]

The page's content from this point onward will use the abbreviation "BOTC" when referencing Boy of the Cones.

In early 2.0, Boy of the Cones created a level titled Catabath, which was accidentally rated at the time and consequently criticized as an extremely low-quality and poorly executed level by the community.[2] BOTC was discovered to have hacked the level 6-7 times, which quickly resulted in numerous videos exposing his cheating. Water, a former Geometry Dash content creator, uploaded a video calling BOTC out, demanding an explanation on why it was rated.[14]

BOTC then sought redemption by purchasing a 144Hz monitor and practicing to become a better player. Later, he created a level titled After Catabath (a sequel to his Catabath), which saw improved decoration over its predecessor, and was verified legitimately.[15] The level initially did not receive a rating; BOTC began to beg RobTop for a rating, claiming he would quit unless After Catabath was rated.[16] This would eventually succeed, greatly upsetting players and creators for a perceived lack of effort in achieving the rating.

BOTC later claimed he cried upon learning Exenity hacked Athanatos, an Extreme Demon, with the level retaining a rating, while his hacking of a single level caused his other levels to be exempt from rating.[16]

During 2.1, BOTC started a new level layout known as Buff This.[17] Already having amassed considerable notoriety for his actions during the previous update, BOTC and his layout video saw yet another round of lambasting, with criticism directed towards the level's plain and unoriginal gameplay and design, primarily consisting of straight-flying segments. During the layout's decoration, BOTC inquired to RobTop whether the level was eligible for rating, to which he was answered with the possibility so long as the level exhibited an adequate style. BOTC enlisted the help of two friends, CastriX and TEX02, to decorate the level. Upon Buff This's release, players lashed out to BOTC and RobTop.[18] Two players and content creators, Luqualizer and RicoLP, both threatened to quit if the level was rated. Players were once again upset that a level perceived as low-effort had been rated in the face of many unrated levels by unknown creators, with some citing the rating as another example of nepotism on RobTop's part. Fans of Luqualizer and RicoLP, fearing their departure from the game, lashed out to BOTC. Sea created a rant video criticizing players for harassing BOTC simply to follow in the footsteps of larger players.[19] BOTC's position as a moderator in Geometry Dash was also questioned. BOTC then published a video about how the level was intended to be a joke, and that people need to "grow up" and not cry over "a four dollar game"; the video received an overwhelmingly negative response.[20]

He is currently attempting to beat Bloodlust with his current progress being 61%, which he achieved on February 7, 2021.[21]
