―Zafkiel |
Idols is a 2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration hosted by Herdys, published by Zafkiel, and verified by Dorami.[1] This level is meant to be a partial tribute to Update 1.9.
History[]
On December 4, 2017, Herdys released a video showcasing an XL Insane Demon layout he recently built.[2] It was well-received for its fun-looking gameplay and great sync, and thus motivated Zafkiel to host a fully decorated version with 18 creators, as well as a Creator Contest to get some unknown creators into the mix.[3]
In March, FarDreamer posted a montage of the near-finished level, which caused more people to look into it.[4]
In August 2018, sometime after Dorami returned to the game, he picked up the finished version of the level to verify. He got 43% and 96%,[5] but on August 18, 2018, he verified it, being the hardest Demon in his first comeback month (which is why he called it "legendary").[1]
Gameplay[]
This section is a stub. You can help by extending it to show your Wiki love!
It is suggested that this section be revamped.
- 0-4% (Fufafac): The level starts with 1x speed cube- and robot gameplay. It then speeds up to 2x while the gamemode is only cube. This part ends as the player slows down to 0.5x speed and the name of the creator can be seen.
- 4-11% (Sei.un): This part starts at the first drop of the song. The player is introduced to well-synced to the music and speed-changing cube- and robot gameplay. At 7%, there is a text saying "Remember 1.9?" and immediately after that, the gameplay is changed to a 1.9-themed UFO. Shortly after, the UFO speeds up to 4x speed and a mainly wave segment comes in. After that rapid section, the player is slowed down to 0.5x speed as a mini wave while they have to maneuver through diamond-shaped structures. This part ends as a normal cube going between the nostalgic text design whereas the upper one says "GO!" and the lower one speaks of the name of the decorator, "SEIUN".
- 12-19% (GeometryTom): In this part, a green orb suddenly appears, requiring an immediate tap. Having done that, the gameplay comes in. This section first starts with cube gameplay along with glowy- and green/indigo-ish decoration, then changes to a ball while the structures sometimes pulse yellow. Following a ship with some straight-fly and tight sections, the decoration turns into a 1.9 theme and the speed is reduced to 0.5x. Later, everything goes black and the lyrics at the current time of the song are visualized, saying "NEVER" 3 times, then a huge "LAZORS!!1" appears and spins clockwise. The cutscene ends and the next part is entered.
- 19-27% (HoshiKido): This part starts with spider gameplay featuring structures decorated with multiple/fused block designs, pulsing to the song. The gameplay is also music-synced as well. The spider is then split into an asymmetrical dual, with the upper being spider and the lower being ball. It briefly ends as a single ball. Then a black transition shows up and the player is introduced to a different section. While the background is dark blue, everything around is built in 1.9 and utilizing player colors. An angry face is later seen and then follows the text "DO YOU REMEMBER ME?". It later black-transitions to music-synced spider gameplay with the decoration resembling that of the beginning of this part due to the repeat of the rhythm. However, the next gamemode is the UFO and then ship. The ship gets slowed down as of the transition to the next part.
- 27-31% (Oasiz): A 4x speed cube section is introduced in this red/purplish part. The icon constantly flashes to the Hide/Show trigger spam. Later, the name of the decorator, Oasiz, flies through the background. A smiley face that looks like the Messenger's slightly smiling face is then seen and simultaneously the player has to control the mini wave through a Nine-Circles-themed section.
- 32-35% (FarDreamer): After the aforesaid part ends, the player is now a ship having to fly through tight areas. The decoration is 1.9-themed with advanced pulsing and particles as well as featuring Nine Circles' background. This part ends as FarDreamer's name is seen.
- 36-40% (ZedAurum): The drop ends and calm robot gameplay is introduced. This part also has fused block design and the lyrics of the song are shown in the background and later along the path the player goes. This part ends with five dash orbs, with the first four requiring a brief tap as to sync with the song while the last one requires a long hold to the next part.
- 40-44% (Bermard): This iconic part features the logo of Proximity, a renowned music distributor, in the background. As for the gameplay, the player has to jump over 12 triple spikes (spikes are different-sized). However, when the player almost lands on the other side of the spikes, everything pulses black and the structures, which are made of 1.0 blocks, are relocated, forcing the player to jump over them again. On the last row of spikes, after making the final jump, the icon is floated mid-air and the gameplay is synced to the beat. It then turns black, signaling the second drop and the end of the section.
- 45-53% (XUranoX): The next drop starts with two blind orbs during the robot gamemode. Next, the player enters a downward slope via teleport portals. There are blue orbs to activate throughout the slope. The part ends with a dash orb, leading to a wave portal via a yellow pad. Upon entering the wave, the surroundings pulse in a cyan color. Having maneuvered for a while, an auto section is shown. Then, the player continues having to control the wave. The wave ends as the "Rock n' Roll" sample is sung and the player transitions into a cube which is another brief transition to the ship, in turn leading way to a set of teleport portals. The player is then teleported to a short cube segment that is made for the sample "Let's go now". After this segment ends, the player is teleported to another segment, starting as a robot. There are some orbs to activate and some auto parts that can be seen. At 50%, the player has to hold the dash orb as a cube to get to a transition via a green orb. At the end of the transition, there is a row of spikes to jump over. However, on the second half of the spikes, there is a blue orb, leading players to a brief segment. The name of the part's creator ,"Urano", can be seen on the top of the spikes. After this segment ends, there is a cutscene of the sample "WHICH MEANS BEFORE YOU WERE BORN" written in style similar to that of Killbot's.
- 53-61% (Zafkiel): This part starts with UFO gameplay, showing 4 different styles of 1.9 decorations as the background flashes to white. These styles are inspired by Nine Circles, Windy Landscape, etc. the gameplay is made up by orbs, such as green-, blue- and pink orbs, and also some gravity portals. At 55%, the UFO ends as the (Rock n' Roll) text is sung and the background flashes to white leading to a ship part. This ship gameplay represents the iconic Death Moon style, both with its decoration and gameplay structuring. When the player is about to click the four orbs in order to pass the ship part, two black divisions appear on the screen. The top one saying (let's go) and the bottom saying (now). Onto the next white flash, it represents some ship- and wave structures that are reminiscent of the indigo-style. Just like in GeometryTom's part, but with more effects and decorations. The gameplay is followed up by two orbs, leading to the wave gamemode and some hard wave structures. The wave will once get teleported onto its same spot multiple times, syncing with the song, as a result of the wave falling down on the urge to do the click to pass up on the spike. Then it flashes in white to a part that is inspired by the Fire Aura wave style. At 59% it flashes in black color back on the indigo-style, leading into gameplay that starts with cube, robot, and then cube again. The clicks are synced to the music. When the clicks are done, the player sees the name of the creator (ZAFKIEL) representing his part, and the player falls into seven blocks, that are synced with the song, also showing the text (everybody in the world) as the player falls down on the blocks. Once this is done, the gamemode changes to dual cube and the screen goes black with the (LAZORS!!1) text being sung with RGB stripes behind it, leading onto the next part.
- 61-68% (Diriswan97 + WOOGI1411): This part features a fast paced asymetrical dual containing multiple gameplay changes.
- 68-77% (FarDreamer):
- 77-83% (Auntex):
- 83-89% (Axdrel):
- 89-94% (Credits):
- 94-98% (Zenthisuper + Kllnex + SrGaton + Yuno + YukiKitsune + Hko):
- 98-100% (End Screen): The end screen features a white silhouette of Skrillex surrounded by the names of the creators of the level. The name of the verifier, Dorami, can be seen on the top left corner.
Trivia[]
- The level is free to copy.
- The level contains 256,548 objects.
- The level is 3m 50s in length.
- The level was ranked #86 in GDToday's 100 Greatest Levels of All Time list.
- The level was initially placed at #51 on the Geometry Dash Demonlist on September 3, 2018, above Artificial Ideology (#52) and below Down Bass (#50).
- The addition of Idols along with VendetTa to the Demonlist knocked Artificial Ideology into the Extended List and Final Epilogue as well as Photovoltaic into the Legacy List at the same time.
- It is currently #69 on the Low Refresh Rate Mobile Demonlist, above Glacial Torrent (#70) and below Fusion Z (#68).
- In the end, many creators had short ~1-second parts before the level ended.
- Many famous players say that it is not that hard for an Extreme Demon: SrGuillester beat it in ten minutes, Nexus beat it in two days, and Dorami, the verifier, beat it in two weeks. Some people in fact call this an Insane Demon, even though it is generally considered very similar to Bloodbath in difficulty.
- This level was actually based on a level called Coming Soon Collab16 by ZenthicAxy78.
- The background of the part where the Proximity logo is featured is actually a replica of the thumbnail for Proximity's upload of the song for this level, Idols.[6]
- The sound visualizer is also replicated in that part.
- An official sequel was planned known as Pop Culture. However, it got canceled and then revived, but as a remake of Idols instead of a sequel. It later was canceled again.
- The level has been revived, although it is no longer associated with Idols in any way.
- The end screen contains the name "Dorami", referencing the fact that the verifier was also called Dorami.
- The placement of Ecstasy on December 13, 2020, knocked Idols into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
