SentientDjake (also known as Djake/Jake and formerly known as JakeEP, JakeSJ, JakeN2436, JakeM2436, Temporum and Acharne) is a skilled British player in Geometry Dash. Known for beating Sonic Wave 20 times, he specializes in the wave gamemode. One of his most prominent achievements is completing every Demon-rated Nine Circles level, being the first person in the world to do so, followed by Kevelia.

His current hardest Demon is The Hallucination, beaten on 12 January 2024.[1]

History[]

Events of 2016[]

In late July/early August, Jake began to attempt verifying a level that was once considered impossible, that level being Sakupen Hell. In a day or two, he managed to obtain 25% on the level. He uploaded a progress video to his YouTube channel. Skilled player and subscriber TrusTa saw the video and took inspiration from Jake to verify Sakupen Hell himself. Jake, who strongly believe that TrusTa would verify the level, stepped down immediately due to fearing that he was not skilled enough to match TrusTa. Since then, TrusTa indeed ended up verifying Sakupen Hell, and it is featured and rated Extreme Demon. Jake also beat it later on in the year, on Christmas Day.

Since he lost motivation, Jake went on a hiatus for a week. However, he regained motivation over time and went back to pushing for his original objective: to successfully beat Sonic Wave. On September 6, he blew all of his previous achievements out of the water by managing to pull off a run of 28%-90% on Sonic Wave. In a stream, he got 28-93% not once but twice. He also got 72% but accidentally deleted the recording due to confusion with a full hard drive. He also got 75% soon after. Up until mid-November, he tried to beat Sonic Wave, but he announced in a YouTube video that he would no longer be playing Sonic Wave or Sakupen Hell since they were stressful and became boring since there was no progress. He turned to beat Allegiance, but after one week of playing, he failed at 96%. After dying past 80% almost 30 times, he gave up and suddenly quit the game before beating the level as what he stated was his "penultimate demon", even though as of today this is not true. After this, he yet again changed his mind and decided to quit the community instead.

On December 6, Jake uploaded a video to his YouTube channel titled "UM!!!!!!!!! READ THE DESCRIPTION QUICK + ONE OF THE BEST REACTIONS IN GD?!".[2] This was a video that no one expected. In the video, there is gameplay of Sonic Wave. Unbelievably, Jake managed to complete the entire wave section of Sonic Wave from 28%, all the way to 100%. He received heavy backlash from uploading this due to previously stating that he had quit the game. However, he has stated that the "opinions of the people who are too illiterate to read the description don't bother [him]". He decided that he would try one last time to complete Sonic Wave while he waited for his part in the Trial of the Gods collaboration, and on December 7, he reached 45% in a matter of roughly 50 attempts.

On December 11, Jake made his "third to last" YouTube video, explaining how he thought the community was terrible and how he would sever all ties with it. His penultimate video on his YouTube channel before his temporary quitting was the verification footage of his final level, the full version of Flat Major. The unfinished version was originally verified by EndLevel. EndLevel's version has been updated with a complete redesign by Metalface221. It was sent in by four moderators and has a feature with an Insane Demon rating.

Also, in late December, Jake completed the Extreme Demon Future Demoness X: the original, unnerfed version of Future Demoness that was verified by Atomic eight months prior. It remains one of his hardest Demons to date and was one of his last achievements while using a controller.

After he got a new mouse as a Christmas present, Jake instantly rediscovered his wave skill and precision. Therefore, on Christmas Day, he beat one of his long-term objectives: Sakupen Hell. It took him around 8,000 attempts total, along with approximately 30 deaths at the final wave segment.

Events of 2017[]

On January 5, Jake finally achieved his terminal goal, which he kept for almost a year by completing Sonic Wave. He beat it the first time without recording (which is discussed amongst his friends if it was the worst fail in Geometry Dash history that didn't include deaths). While attempting to rebeat it, he died at 93%. However, just under two hours later, he re-completed the level while recording, and his record was quickly added to the Demonlist.

Six days later, he destroyed the former #1 and #2 on the Demonlist. They were Bloodbath (~12,336 attempts) and Phobos (9,688 attempts), firmly placing him in the Top 10 best players in the world. Later on, he became the first to beat the unnerfed version of Paracosm Circles by N1X0, taking him 1,783 attempts. The other Top 50 demons he beat afterward were The Ultimate Phase, the newly hyper-buffed Down Bass, Future Circles, Cataclysm, A Bizarre Phantasm, Athanatos, and Artificial Ideology.

On February 25, Jake verified what is arguably his most recognizable achievement - Bausha Vortex. The verification came after an excruciating fail at 98%: the last click. Bausha Vortex is considered the most revolutionary Nine Circles level in Geometry Dash, as it sparked a new era of said levels. It was also a pioneer in difficulty, placing at #5 on the Demonlist after it was rated. Other levels Jake verified around this time included Paracosm Hell and Cynical Sanctuary. Not only that, but he became the first to beat Cosmorush 21: an Insane/Extreme Demon by Pennutoh that was eventually rated next year.

On March 15, Jake asked Manix648 for permission to verify Blade of Justice, an almost impossible extreme demon from mid-2.0. He was permitted, and Manix told Jake to pick up a random leaked copy to start working on it. However, every leaked copy was either TrusTa's nerfed version or one that was lacking a sufficient Low Detail Mode. Therefore, Jake asked Manix for a copy with a specialized Low Detail Mode. Oddly, after this request, communication between Manix and Jake went silent, and Manix never gave Jake the level. He later passed it to RicoLP, leaving Jake without having even touched it. Blade of Justice was then severely nerfed under Manix's orders and was verified soon after, initially placing at #23 on the Demonlist. Not only did this confusion prevent Jake from furthering his legacy, but it also demotivated him. It was from here that Jake would start to play Geometry Dash less and less.

Jake's next planned Extreme Demon to beat was Red World Rebirth. Initially, he struggled on the level. Soon after, however, he fluked from 58% to 93%. The fact that he fluked to the end of the level and died ended up demotivating him, as the hardest part of Red World Rebirth is widely considered to be the final 20%, and he felt he would make no progress.

On August 2, Jake was streaming him beating the last of the Nine Circles levels he had left to beat. In less than 5 minutes of starting the stream, he beat Pulsar - the newest addition to the Nine Circles series. This meant that he only had one Nine Circles level left to beat: Nine Deaths by RespectVG. After becoming frustrated at the inconsistency of the level, Jake did what Riot had come close to doing two years before him: complete the Nine Circles series in its entirety by demolishing Nine Deaths in less than 200 attempts. He uploaded a compilation video of him beating every single Nine Circles Demon on August 20. It is currently his most popular video with over 2.1 million views.

After making this video, Jake took a break from the game to bask in the aftermath of his achievement. However, on November 2, Jake announced his return after his inactivity. Following this, the next day, he completed SubSonic. He then aimed for Plasma Pulse III, beating it on November 9 after a fail at 98%. Furthermore, he decided to make his version of Silent Circles by nerfing it. He managed to do a start position run of 27% to 58% before leaving the level to focus on actual rated Extreme Demons. One of these was Cadrega City. He managed to pull off a run from 35% to 100% before putting that aside to focus on ZAPHKIEL. He died at 91% three times before finally finishing the level on December 12, after 14,293 attempts. Almost immediately afterward, he started working on Erebus. He made rapid progress and eventually fluking the level from 76% to 100% on December 16.

Events of 2018[]

On February 8, Jake beat Stalemate Redux - a remake of the difficult 1.9 Demon, Stalemate. At the time, the level was #6 on the Demonlist, proving to be a worthy achievement. It is also one of his favorite Extreme Demons in the game.

On March 1, he quit Geometry Dash yet again, however only temporarily. He privated all of his biggest achievements, changed his alias to ThatJ4ke, and attempted to focus on Dead by Daylight gameplay, only to receive huge backlash. He said that he found Geometry Dash a chore to play and had decided to quit.

On May 16, he returned and said that he was addicted to the game, and he was playing on an alternate YouTube account called BeautiX where he beat Hyper Paracosm. He apologized for taking it out on his fans and said thanks to the fans still there. He said, from now on, he'll only take small breaks.[1]

The same day, he made his Geometry Dash videos public again and also uploaded the Hyper Paracosm 100% video to his main channel, hinting at a return. His "main" Geometry Dash account was renamed to ThisJ4ke, and he started playing the game again and made a few layouts.

On September 13, he uploaded a video titled "my mouse is dying" stating that his mouse entered a "double-click phase" and he could not play Geometry Dash anymore. He focused temporarily on Dead by Daylight, Grand Theft Auto V, Mario Kart Wii, and other games until he got a new mouse.

On October 30, after becoming frustrated with the community, Jake decided to take another break. He returned on December 12, when he got 60% on Celestial Force and ordered a new mouse.

On December 21, he beat Paracosm Crypt - the nerfed version of Paracosm Hell - on his live stream named "markiplier".

It was around Christmas that Jake decided to pick Silent Circles back up. On December 27, he uploaded a progress video of 60% to 100%. Jake was not expecting to get much further but ended up surprising himself and the community when two days later, he managed to do a run from 27% to 76%. This was his last activity for the year 2018. But after being pestered by the community for months after these achievements, Jake privated his Silent Circles videos in hopes everyone would stop asking about it.

Events of 2019[]

On January 20, he beat Yatagarasu almost two years after he originally began practicing it, stating it to be his best achievement. Yatagarasu was a level that severely affected Jake's enjoyment of Geometry Dash, thanks to how painful the level was for him to beat. Before beating the level, he died at 94% and burst into tears. He also died many times at Hinds and loogiah's parts. This frustrated him like no other level he had ever attempted, possibly except for ZAPHKIEL. If it was not for this awful experience, Jake would likely be playing Extreme Demons more often today.

After beating Yatagarasu, Jake decided to take a break from Extreme Demons for a few months. It was not until August that Jake found a reason to continue - he got a new computer and microphone. Thanks to his new PC, Jake was able to beat Balengu Vortex in full detail on August 27 - a completion that marked a new beginning for him.

Some of the Extreme Demon completions that followed were Awakening Horus, Auditory Breaker, and Artifice (with Jake especially loving the latter, regarding it as one of his favorite levels). However, things came crashing down on December 17, when Jake's dog had to be put down after being ill for a few days. Jake took a two-week break to digest the loss before returning with a bang and beating Catalyze on New Year's Eve - another one of his favorite levels and his final achievement both of 2019 and on 144Hz.

Events of 2020[]

On January 25, Jake bought a new 240Hz monitor and began intensively practicing Arctic Lights. Three days later, after a fail at 92% and multiple other fails near the end, he finally completed his new hardest achievement and the (at the time) hardest Nine Circles level in Geometry Dash after over 11,000 attempts.

Merely three days later, on January 31, Jake beat Generic Wave. Unbeknownst to most, Jake was the original verifier of Generic Wave but passed it back to Pennutoh after discovering how buggy, inconsistent, and relatively unplayable the level was. This experience resulted in his reluctance to beat the level after it was released. However, his curiosity got the better of him, and it is now one of the more impressive achievements of his arsenal.

Some more notable Extreme Demon completions are Glide, Black Blizzard, Cadrega City (which he had returned to after years of no progress), Carnage Mode (which he dubbed as the most boring Extreme Demon), and Narcissist, an unrated Extreme Nine Circles Demon by Skulzi. However, Jake showed how well he had retained his skill when he managed to be the first victor of Hateful Reflection, a low-end Extreme Nine Circles Demon by GD Iris. nSwish was almost the first victor of the level, but Jake beat him to it by merely an hour. nSwish had also started practicing Hateful Reflection before Jake had even picked it up, which is arguably even more impressive.

After Hateful Reflection, Jake picked up his first verification project in over two years - Glacial Core, an Extreme Nine Circles Demon by Janucha. Unbelievably, Jake managed to verify the level in only two days, uploading the verification video on May 17. To this day, the level has yet to be rated, despite its sequel being not only rated, but featured.

Jake continued to beat Extreme Demons through the summer, including Hyper Paradox, Devil Vortex, Prismatic Haze, INNARDS, and Ithacropolis. However, his most notable achievement during this time was the new sequel to Arctic Lights: Aquatic Auroras. Jake was tied with nSwish as the only victor of Aquatic Auroras for half a year, proving his skill was still of a high standard.

On July 5, Jake uploaded part 2 to his most popular video showcasing him beating every Nine Circles Demon in Geometry Dash. The video also includes some Nine Circles levels he believed should be or could have been rated at the time of their release. Almost immediately after this video was uploaded, a new Extreme Nine Circles Demon called Tenth Circle was verified by Dorami. Jake attempted to practice the level many times and got 31%. However, due to numerous reasons (mainly awful gameplay, overzealous decoration, bugs, and imbalances), he refused to complete it and stood by this promise for some time. He stated that unless the level gets a major update fixing all of its problems, he will not touch it, despite the nagging by his fans. Tenth Circle received a balance update on June 2, 2021.

From July, Jake took a break from completing Extreme Demons as he did not have any motivation for the time being. However, this changed when he completed Molten Mercury, the sequel to Tempered Steel, on November 16. He cited it to be a "fun level". He then beat Void Wave and CYCLONE in late December, before finishing the year of 2020 with the completion of Deception Dive on December 29.

Events of 2021[]

Jake's first Extreme Demon completion of 2021 was Metalface221's version of the unrated level Deadly Corridor, which he beat in less than 1,000 attempts on January 14. Continuing his streak of Extreme Demons uploaded by Metalface221, he beat Volume on January 20. He disliked Volume because he had stated that "the wave is way too difficult compared to the rest of the level".

After this, on February 4, Jake was the first to beat a new remake of Sonic Wave by llZestll: Redemption. Despite having a bad experience with the level, Jake worked with Zest to fix imbalances and bugs in an update released that same day. The level has yet to be rated.

Some more Extreme Demon completions are Zettabyte on March 16, The Flawless on March 26, and Artificial Dream on April 2. He also beat Breakout Redux on April 17, describing it as a "rushed, poorly playtested, unbalanced, bug-ridden, blind transition-ridden bundle of AIDS".

On April 21, it was announced via Riot's Twitter page that Jake would be the verifier of the new official version of Cosmic Cyclone. Riot had split from APTeam in the month prior, thus deciding to make his version of the level. The level was being decorated by Cirtrax and Jake was appointed as the verifier. However, due to inactivity from all parties, the project has since died.

Come June 2, an update to Tenth Circle - a level which Jake had despised for so long - was released. Initially, Jake was reluctant to try it but ended up beating the level the day after. His thoughts on the level were mixed, with him stating "[he] still didn't like playing the level but at least it was actually bearable this time".

After completing Tenth Circle and a few Shitty levels, Jake's activity in Geometry Dash dwindled as he took a break to spend more time with his friends. However, as a temporarily hopeful sign of his return, he rebeat Bloodbath for the first time since July 2017 on June 25. Then, on June 27, he uploaded a progress video of Bloodlust, in which he obtained 44% after only a few hours of playing the level. Later that same day, he managed to complete the full extension. Making insanely fast progress, by June 29, he uploaded a video showcasing a run from 36% to 98%, followed by what would be his final progress video of 76% the next day. Four hours later, after only three days and 4,064 attempts, Jake obtained a new hardest Demon by beating Bloodlust. He summed up his experience as "an absolute blast of a level that surprisingly lives up to its legendary status".

Jake Community Post

Jake's community post regarding moving on from Geometry Dash.

Beating Bloodlust was a milestone Jake wasn't expecting to achieve. So unexpected, in fact, that Jake felt as though his journey in Geometry Dash coming to a close. Bloodlust would have remained the final Demon Jake had completed, because come September 21, he posted on his YouTube community tab explaining that he had not properly played the game since June 30 and finally had more important things he is willing to focus on. On top of that, a general loss of interest in video games for the first time in 20 years could partially have been to blame. After leaving all of the Geometry Dash-related Discord servers and unfollowing/unsubscribing from many Geometry Dash players, Jake thought he was ready to move on from the game and the community, albeit not on bad terms.

Things began to change when Jake's best friend Thea (TSRAnimations) became a Twitch mod for AeonAir, and started being more active in the voice chats in his Discord server, the AirLounge. Jake and Thea usually spend all day every day calling in Jake's Discord server, but thanks to Thea's activity shifting more towards the AirLounge, Jake decided to rejoin the server to be with her. Feeling out of place, Jake opened Geometry Dash for the first time in months and started to play again just to fit in with the crowd. This led to some short-lived motivation where he beat levels such as Sonic Wave Rebirth and Titan Complex on December 26 and Molten Core (of which he was the original verifier) on December 29.

Events of 2022[]

After some brief inactivity at the beginning of the year, Jake began playing a level he initially had no intention of beating: Zodiac. Within 10,000 attempts, he managed to get 39% on January 16 and also complete a run from 56% to 100% on January 19. While taking a break from the level, he quickly beat Photovoltaic II on January 21. Still not feeling it with Zodiac, Jake started making progress on a level he played a while ago: Ouroboros. He obtained a record of 31% when he first started playing the level in 2020, but by January 26, 2022, his best run was 36% to 95%. On that same day, he beat Abandoned Planet. Unfortunately, he started getting bored of Ouroboros too, so began to play Kenos. As expected, he obtained a good run of 68% to 100% before yet again becoming bored of the level.

It would not be until March 10 that Jake would get around to finishing something: the wave of Riptide. Riptide is an Extreme Demon layout made by Ferox242 in 2018, with an infamous extremely difficult wave section near the end of the level. Jake isolated the wave section and managed to beat it after 5,679 attempts, becoming the first person in the world to conquer said wave section. He would then end up getting 68% on a leaked Top 10 version of Azure Flare by EndLevel, ViRuZ, and Aeden.

Not much would come from Jake until the end of May, when he obtained a new high-end PC. He uploaded a video showcasing a run from 38% to 87% on Calculator Core in full detail in order to test the waters, before taking some time away from the game for two weeks in order to do the same with Microsoft Flight Simulator. Two weeks later, partway through June, he returned. Feeling a slight burst of motivation from his new rig, he decided to beat an object-heavy Extreme Demon. Eventually, he opted for Night Rider, and so it was done come June 12.

Jake took another break soon after to play other games with his friends, but shortly before his 21st birthday in July, he worked up the courage to revisit an Extreme Demon he planned to beat earlier - Zodiac. After a few days of trying, he obtained 62%. Jake, however, decided to put Zodiac aside indefinitely as it was such a daunting level. Some more days later, Friday Vortex became the next Extreme Demon he conquered. Explosion and New Record soon followed suit in August, along with Azurite by Sillow, Delta Interface and Azurite by royen through September.

It was the day after beating royen's Azurite that Jake decided to go for a new hardest achievement - the published and rated version of the level he was once verifying, Cosmic Cyclone. With progress videos showing him getting 48% and 79% being uploaded both on the same day, he managed to complete the level on October 1. It turned out to be one of his favourite levels in the game.

After beating Cosmic Cyclone and a few more Nine Circles levels in early October, Jake took a small break from the game until December. On December 7, he became the first person to beat 100 Nine Circles Demons with the completion of In Cargill.

Jake's last notable activity in Geometry Dash for 2022 was two progress videos on Calculator Core: 24% to 90%, and 78%. It wouldn't be until more than halfway through 2023 that Jake would return to uploading Geometry Dash content.

Events of 2023[]

Near the end of June, Jake would return to playing Extreme Demons with the completion of Distraught. It was June 30 when the video was uploaded. Shortly after, he began to play a level he never thought he would play: Ragnarok. With the first progress video posted on July 3, it took just over three weeks for Jake to beat the level on July 25, following a death at 98%.[3] He stated in the description of the completion video that the unlucky experience he had with the level is making him take another break from the game.

In just under two weeks, it seemed that Jake was back with a completion of CraZy III. Upon further inspection of the description, though, one would find the sentence "break probably wasn't long enough lol. anyway, back to trucking", implying his experience with Ragnarok was still staining his mindset. Yet, come September, he had had enough time to compartmentalise his frustrations - leading to the initiation of Jake's most exhilarating journey in over half a decade.

The Hallucination is a level Jake had always wanted to beat ever since its layout was showcased by its creator, VoTcHi, in June 2020. Not long after its full release in June 2022, Jake had posted a status on his Geometry Dash account: "i want to beat the hallucination but it's impossible help what do i do". It wouldn't be until September 18, 2023, that he would start taking the learning process seriously. He spent the next 4 months learning the level and grinding runs, amassing dozens of thousands of attempts in the process. As the light at the end of the tunnel grew brighter, on November 26, he announced he had purchased a new keyboard (the Wooting two HE) and had switched to using up arrow after using mouse exclusively for almost 9 years. This forced Jake to regain his muscle memory, which he had to do once more when update 2.2 was released during the final weeks of the year. On the same day, Jake released a video announcing that the new physics had also broken the level in multiple places, forcing him to make a copy and attempt to fix all of the new bugs.

Events of 2024[]

On January 10, Jake's final progress video for The Hallucination - his second time dying at 73% - was posted to his YouTube channel. Two fails at 75% soon followed. Finally, two days later, after almost 50,000 attempts, Jake's biggest achievement was realised. His bugfixed version of the level was uploaded to his Geometry Dash account. However, the Demonlist rejected his record. A previous victor conferred with the moderators, whom decided to rule Jake's bugfixed copy as having illegal fixes. Despite the initial blow to his pride and excitement, it would occur the next day that he would rebeat the level in less than 600 attempts. This oddly mirrored the similar situation of his Sonic Wave completion seven years prior. Jake maintains the opinion that The Hallucination is the best level in the game - an opinion heavily influenced by his lack of annoyance and rage while playing it. In his own words, "[he] just [loves] this level too much to be mad at it".[4]

Following this achievement, Jake maintained semi-frequent activity in the game, mostly grinding Easy Demons with the occasional Insane Demon completion. He beat Gang Plank Hell on January 21 - an Extreme Demon he had previously made progress on in March 2020. Evident from the description of the video, it was no secret that Jake found the level boring. Yet, on January 25, he began to play another Extreme Demon more recently made by the same creator, which he labelled as "underappreciated".[5] He would go on to beat the level, FRIDAY, on February 10.

Trivia[]

  • Jake's username is a reference to one of his favourite music genres (djent) and one of the songs by his favourite band (Periphery), named Sentient Glow.
  • Jake has non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder - a very rare sleep disorder where his circadian rhythm is longer than 24 hours. This means the times he wakes up and goes to sleep get progressively later each day. He also has generalized anxiety disorder and is on the autism spectrum.
  • Jake has had a fair few deaths on the last click/last possible place to die in many Extreme Demons: 88% on Sakupen Hell, 98% on Bausha Vortex, 96% on Athanatos, 94% on Niflheim98% on Plasma Pulse III, 97% on Mystic, 98% on DeathsGate, 92% on Arctic Lights, 97% on Narcissist, and 93% on Devil Vortex.
  • The main reason Jake rose in popularity is that a semi-famous player, SebQuero11, shouted him out.
    • Another reason he is still well-known is that SEA, a famous ex-Geometry Dash YouTuber, mentioned him in his Sakupen Hell and Nine Circles Series Maps from Hell documentaries.
  • He started playing the game in late January 2015, coincidentally around the time Nine Circles was released.
  • Also coincidentally, his ninth Demon in the game was Nine Circles.[6]
  • He has the world record for lowest attempts on New Cataclysm, which only took him 546 attempts.
  • He is one of the only people in the world who has completed every single demon-rated Nine Circles level at some point, along with Kevelia.
  • Some of Jake's favorite Extreme Demons include The Hallucination, FRIDAY, Artifice, Void Wave, Stalemate Redux, Catalyze, Cosmic Cyclone and Bloodlust, all of which he has beaten.
    • The Demonlist rejected Jake's 100% record on The Hallucination, leading to him completing the level again the next day. This makes him the only person to have beaten The Hallucination twice.
  • His profile picture is official art of Hodari Pavel from the game Palia.
