Noctalium (Noctaliium in-game, Nctlm in-game on his new account, formerly known as NoctaFly) was a French player and hacker in Geometry Dash. Considered a legitimate player for much of his career, Noctalium was famed for his incredible fast rates of star and Demon-completion accumulation, eventually reaching the number one spot on the in-game global leaderboard. However, he was later accused of hacking multiple times in his level completions, most notably Sakupen Hell, Yatagarasu, his version of Death corridor and ZAPHKIEL (which he "verified" for Darwin). Months after these accusations began, Noctalium finally confessed.[1] Following his confession, he began playing easier Geometry Dash levels (Easy-Hard Demons), and later shifted to osu! gameplay on his YouTube channel.

Conflicts[]

  • Noctalium steals Death Corridor: In October 2017, after deciding he would like to verify Death corridor, Noctalium steals a version of Death Corridor Finale from KugelBlitz and refuses to let it die.
  • Noctalium exposing: In November 2017, when Noctalium got exposed for hacking several of his major achievements, knobbelboy got involved with Riot and several other notable players to team up to gather evidence for his hacking.

History[]

Noctalium joined YouTube on 18 September 2015.

Noctalium (known during the bulk of his career as Noctalium) was a well-established player on the Top 100 leaderboard. However, one thing separated him from other players: the speed at which he can grind stars and Extreme Demons simultaneously. For a while, many only viewed Noctalium as an above-average player who collected many stars, but this all changed when he unleashed his real skill upon the community. He started beating Extreme Demons at an extremely rapid rate. He also raced up the leaderboard very quickly. Many reevaluated him from being seen as a decent player to one of the best mixes of a star grinder and a Demon grinder the game had ever seen.

On 18 September 2016, he verified Mantis Massacre.

On 6 March 2017, people accused him of beating Sakupen Hell with an auto tool. The evidence provided seemed reliable, and people were sure of his illegitimacy. He completely disproved the previously stated accusation by proving the existence of a slope bug Zimnyte (a hacker as well), and himself mentioned and also gave a brief explanation on the ridiculous UFO spam seen in his video of him beating Sakupen Hell.

A while back, he stated he would quit Geometry Dash out of boredom. He did not keep this promise for that long, as, on 6 October 2017, he did what surprised the whole community: he 'verified' the redesigned version of Death corridor by KaotikJumper (redesigned by EternaswipVMAX). This 'verification' sparked a small amount of drama as he was not the 'official' verifier of the level. Most players in the community congratulated him nonetheless for verifying one of the hardest and most legendary levels in Geometry Dash history. It later turned out to be hacked, however.

During October 2017, many Geometry Dash YouTubers, such as Antares, accused Noctalium of cutting his ZAPHKIEL verification video. These 'exposing' videos primarily pointed out the 92% wave section. During this wave section, Noctalium's video cuts to a black screen in the middle, which he claimed to be a software error. The accusers use the volcanoes in the background as a reference point. Using the footage from other players that have beaten the level (TrusTa, Rampage and Sunix), they show that the location of the volcano from Noctalium's footage was in a different position.

On 22 October 2017, Noctalium released a video explaining the hacking accusations targeted toward him. He admitted to cutting the ZAPHKIEL video but did not hack the level.

Riot uploaded his proof to expose Noctalium on 14 November 2017, using evidence from many other 'exposing NoctaFly' videos.[2] In his video, he recalled the Sakupen Hell controversy, stating that it is nigh impossible to encounter a rare 'bug' twice (once in the 'disproving' of the 'hackusations' and once when he beat the level). Riot also pointed out that Noctalium's Deception Dive video had visible cuts and did not give the same kind of excuse he did with his ZAPHKIEL video. Sunix and many other YouTubers also uploaded the same video, sometimes with different names.

Noctalium's account was renamed from NoctaFly to 'Hacktafly' by RobTop (without Noctalium's permission) and banned from the leaderboards. xMiguel007 replaced him at the #1 spot.

On 21 November 2017, Noctalium confessed to hacking several of his Demons such Devil Vortex, Sonic Wave and Yatagarasu.[1] His 60Hz achievements such as Artificial Ascent are still claimed to be legitimate, with several Demonlist editors including Mycrafted believing their legitimacy.

Noctalium also changed his name from Noctafly to Noctalium to signal a change from hacking.

At some point, he deleted his YouTube channel for unspecified reasons and moved to a new account.
