Technical (formerly Technical49) is a skilled American player in Geometry Dash. He became the first person to beat Bloodlust, Plasma Pulse Finale, Gamma (the update of which he verified), Spacial Rend, and Sonic Wave without the FPS bypass. On April 9, 2019, he became the unofficial verifier of Zodiac after xander confessed to hacking, and no one else managed to beat the level without the FPS Bypass after him until Ozzy612 beat it four months later. Additionally, he beat Tartarus on April 18, 2020 and also verified updates to the levels Gamma and Breakout.

He had a period of inactivity during 2021-2022, but he has been recently beating difficult Extreme Demons again. His current hardest Demon is Slaughterhouse, beaten on July 16, 2024. His second hardest Demon is LIMBO, beaten on April 2, 2024. His third hardest Demon is Edge of Destiny, beaten on August 28, 2023, and he also beat Hard Machine on October 9, 2023, which he finds easier than Tartarus.

History[]

Conflicts[]

  • kowareta Rating Drama: On December 31, 2018, Shuri verified the Extreme Demon level kowareta.[1] It would have been placed at #2 if it was rated, as it was considered harder than Plasma Pulse Finale and Spacial Rend, which at the time were contesting for the placement of the second hardest Demon. On August 23, 2019, it finally got featured and placed at #6 on the Demonlist. Shortly after, Technical addressed his distaste for the level and his opinion that it was not rate-worthy. Suddenly, his fans lashed out at Shuri, sending him death threats and telling him to quit Geometry Dash. This event sparked so much controversy that it was unrated by RobTop only nine hours after its release and removed from the Demonlist. Once Shuri addressed this drama, people started criticizing Technical for his role and made a community post addressing it. On August 24, 2019, it was re-rated and re-added to the list, though this time only as a star rating. Both parties have retracted since.

Trivia[]

  • The last two letters of his Twitter profile (JL) represent his initials in real life.
  • He thinks kowareta is not rate-worthy, sparking minor drama after it was briefly unrated. Community members believed the unrating was motivated, in part, by Technical's statements regarding the level.
  • His completion of LIMBO on April 2, 2024 did not come without difficulties.
    • After selecting the key in the finale, he accidentally triggered a speed-hack keyboard shortcut that he habitually used to fast forward through end screens during his runs. Despite not affecting the difficulty of his completion, his accidental shortcut invalidated his completion by Demonlist standards. Anticipating Twitter controversy over the validity of his run, he opted to rebeat the level, which he accomplished in just six hours.
    • On April 4, 2024, he uploaded his completion video to YouTube, but it had the misfortune of having the "n-word" in the URL. He quickly privated the video, reuploaded it, and then shared about the error on Twitter, garnering nearly 50,000 likes, making it his most liked tweet to date.[3] Despite his initial anger at YouTube's oversight stealing his completion's spotlight, he admitted he'd likely laugh about it later on.[4]
      • He later unlisted the original video on May 15, 2024 for those who "really really wanted it and to prove it does still exist", according to the video's description. The video can be found here.
  • He is known for making a full Extreme Demon ranking log, started at 200 Extreme Demons. He ranks levels primarily by gameplay, then decoration, and music. Currently, the level in first place is Quaoar by Viprin and the last one is The Hell World.
  • At one point, he was the set verifier for Sonic Wave Infinity by Riot, a remake of Sonic Wave, said to rival the difficulty of Tartarus. He later dropped the verification due to concerns about future stress.
  • He is known for dying on levels due to celebrating too early. The most notable instances of this are his 95% death on Sigma, 97% death on Catalyze, 98% deaths on The Ultimate Phase and Carnage Mode, and his first 98% death on Ragnarok.
  • He died at 98% on Ragnarok twice: the first time due to a bug and the second time due to bad timing.
  • He hit 10,000 YouTube subscribers on April 3, 2019,[5] 20,000 on May 15, 2019, 30,000 on July 2, 2019, 40,000 on August 14, 2019, 50,000 on January 11, 2020, 60,000 on April 14, 2020, 70,000 on June 15, 2020, 80,000 on September 12, 2020, 90,000 on December 8, 2020, and 100,000 on April 4, 2021.
  • He is often regarded as the official verifier of Zodiac after the original verifier, xander confessed to hacking the level on June 11, 2019. However, Technical has stated that he does not see himself as the verifier.
  • He was part of "The Gang," which included npesta, Golden, Gizbro, and himself. It was disbanded on January 18, 2021.[6]
  • He crashed at 98% on the Extreme Demon Necromancer after he took a brief skip in the level and got killed by the anti-cheat at the end. This instance was the first discovery of the skip anti-cheat, and the death caused some of his fans to attack TGI, the verifier and publisher, for watching Technical take the skips and, as a joke, not telling him about the anti-cheat.[7]
  • He removed the number 49 from the end of his YouTube username on October 18, 2019. The number signified his jersey number in baseball, which he finally revealed in his 49,000 subscribers special.
  • He once changed his YouTube name to "yoshiwannabe" because he lost a bet to one of his friends, Golden.
    • His name was also changed to "yoshiwannabe" on the Demonlist for April Fools' 2019.
  • On November 4, 2019, he beat his 500th Demon and his 100th Extreme Demon, Visible Ray, making him the fourth player to have completed 100 Extreme Demons at the time, after Rainstorm, Kainite, and iNeo.
  • He has been featured on Meet with Csx42Gaming. He was on Episode #22.[8]
  • The reason why Technical received the verification rights for Welcome To GD News is due to Technical's roommate knowing him personally. Vortrox would show up in Technical's apartment to discuss about passing the level's verification to someone else, which he he offered to take.[9]
  • In late March 2020, nSwish surpassed him to claim the #1 spot on the Individual Stats Viewer. However, Technical briefly reclaimed the top position on April 18, 2020, following his completion of Tartarus. nSwish quickly regained the lead a day later after completing Tapwreck.
  • For April Fools 2020, he was promoted to #1 in the Individual Stats Viewer and labeled North Korean.
  • The YouTuber named Blue made a documentary on his history.[10]
  • He lost to Gizbro in the semi-finals in the first session of the Geometry Dash World Cup.[11]
  • He is a very skilled Mario Kart 8 Deluxe player and even holds the World Record on Rainbow Road 200cc with a time of 1:31.842, considered as the hardest thing ever done in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.[12]
  • He uses the same enjoyment rating scale from 1 to 100 for every level that he beats.
    • The highest-rated level was Verdant Landscape with a perfect 100/100, and the lowest-rated levels are Heartbeat and The Hell World with 1/100.
    • AcropoliX did not receive a rating because he beat it at 4 AM.
    • He gave Furious Flames a rating of Brian/100 as a joke and said on stream that the real rating would be around 8 or 9/100.[15]
    • Lucid Nightmares originally had an enjoyment rating of no/100 but was later updated to 3/100.
  • He has done three runs of the Extreme Demon Roulette, one of which was a co-op run with npesta. (Although the co-op video was uploaded to npesta's channel).
    • He was forced to give a Tier 3 Subscription to Pokimane as a punishment for flaking out when he got Cold Sweat for 23%.
      • He also almost forgot to cancel the auto-renew of the subscription, canceling it only one day before its renewal.
