―ARtu

Thanatophobia is a 2.1 Insane Demon mega-collaboration hosted and published by ARtu and verified by Syndrome. The level follows a dark, creepy horror theme, which matches the song. The level is known for its heavily debated difficulty, with some players considering it to be a very difficult Insane Demon and others calling it an easy Extreme Demon.

History[]

The first preview of Thanatophobia premiered on YouTube on January 1, 2020.[1] This preview showed the completed layout, created by ARtu and hyp3rlink. This level was playtested by Zipixbox, Kains, swiborg, LinkLpiS, Marwec, Water667, Andr1x, and Enrix.[2] ARtu showed the second preview of this level on May 2, 2020. This level was in the works for about six months and verified on July 17, 2020.

Gameplay[]

It has been requested that this section be rewritten.
This section lists the decorators. The gameplay of the first ship and the drop were made by ARtu. The gameplay of the pre-drop after the first ship was made by hyp3rlink.

  • 0-10% (Kains): This level starts with a slow ship section. It is dark and begins the eerie adventure. There are size portals that change the player's size with the beat of the music. At 4%, it speeds up to regular speed, and this pattern continues. At 8%, the words "Kains" will appear, and then the player will turn into a dot while flying through a tight mini ship at 9%.
  • 10-24% (Maitnary): After the first ship, the player becomes a mini-cube and hits two jump orbs, green and yellow. Following this, there is a blue orb that the player uses to go upside down. A red orb happens next, and this is generally considered the "hardest timing" to several people. The player then clicks a green and black orb followed by a blue orb then does a precise jump at 13%. After the jump at 13%, the player holds down a dash orb. Afterward, a quick robot section follows it where the player has to click a black orb and then make a small jump to a pink dash orb, which carries on with another black orb. Afterward, there is a robot jump and a cube jump marked with arrows which go into a UFO section which starts with a blue orb, a red orb, a click, a pink orb, a gravity switch, and then a green orb at which the player can either click once or spam the top. The player is then lead into a ball section with another pink dash orb.
  • 24-39% (guleshelt): After Maitnary's part comes Glueshelt's part (also known as Gillis). This section starts with a pink dash orb and a pink orb. This follows a spider section as well as a quick UFO where the player clicks a green orb. The UFO goes into a robot portal where the player jumps and hits a green orb. The player goes into a brief ball part which leads into two jump orbs, a yellow one and a black one as a ship. Afterward, the player hits a green orb as a robot while the text flashes "GILES" a quick auto, then the player hits a pink orb followed by another green dash orb. There is a ball portal in which the player buffers a green orb followed by a black orb which then the player does a few spider timings. A UFO follows the spider for which the player must click a yellow- and black orb to the beat. Afterward, the player turns into a robot in which they click two blue, one red, and one green orb, all to the beat. A quick cube black orb, a very tight red orb timing as a ball, and the final spider timing follow it. This part ends with a quick three-click flying section in which two clicks are to avoid hitting the spikes, and the last one is holding. There is a quick auto to finish off.
  • 39-44% (Chaeyeon): This part slows down. The player first does a precise jump followed by a green orb. Afterward, the player holds a pink dash orb and a glow effect covers the path. The player does a quick jump into another pink dash orb and then a blue jump pad and blue orb. This transforms the player into a tight flying section. This part ends when the player holds a dash orb.
  • 44-53% (RealVet): The drop begins with a ship section flying upwards and then hitting a black orb. The player holds at the mini-portal and holding into the UFO at 47%. Afterward, you click to the beat in which the UFO goes through a gravity portal and then another green orb. The player becomes large and then jumps two times. Afterward, the player hits a black orb and into a quick and easy flying before becoming a UFO again. The player reverses gravity, clicks twice, and then goes into a mini and flips again, then clicks two times again. Visually speaking, RealVet's part contains hands that try to "grab" the player, and there are "spiders" in the background to add spookiness to this part.
  • 53-64% (Voltex): In this part, the player starts as a mini cube in which you hit a platform and then hit a green orb. This carries the player into a bloodbath-difficulty part in which you fly into a ball portal. You need to fly in the center of the ball portal, or otherwise, the green orb at 56% will be bugged or impossible. The background is a spooky night scene with a lot of trees in the background. If you fly in the center, there are two ball timings. These two timings are arguably the hardest in the level as they are super precise and bugged. If you get the timings right, you do quick spam at 57%, and then a cube with a yellow orb follows. You then time a green orb and hold it into the next mini ship. A quick gravity switch followed by a pink dash orb. Afterward, a flying section into a UFO in which you click to the beat. There are three jumps which are two timings and one green orb. It ends with one red orb.
  • 64-75% (Zipixbox): Zipixbox's part starts with a UFO click and then a brief one-spike gap as a ship. After this gap, the player hits a yellow orb followed by a green orb. This brings the player into a mini ball in which there are tight timings and a precise blue orb timing. After the blue orb follows a pink orb and then a normal-sized portal. As a normal-sized ball, the player must do a relatively tight timing followed by another pink orb. This leads to a tight ship section at 70%. The ship goes mini through a one-block corridor and then hits a robot portal and a yellow orb. In this part, the player makes a small jump to hit a pink dash orb followed by another pink jump pad. The robot makes a final yellow orb jump and then a black orb with a cube portal which the player times the black orb in the center. Afterward, a late green orb and carries the player to the final gameplay part.
  • 75-86% (itami): This section ends with a 4x speed ship, and you hold into a green portal and let go. Afterward, you hit the second yellow orb as high as possible. Texts appear saying "Pain", "blood", and "die". You hit a black orb which leads into a UFO where you jump and very quickly hit a black orb. The player makes a quick jump and goes into the final robot section with a tight jump. The player goes into a quick ship with "bats" and then a tight corridor. The player hits a black orb, does a tight jump followed by precise timing between two spikes. This level ends with the player holding a green dash orb a jump pad with an invisible portal, a green orb, and then the final pink dash orb which leads into the end screen.
  • 86-100% (NaimNaro + guleshelt): The level ends with the player going into an auto part. It starts with a girl holding a sword in a dark forest with a monster in the background. The monster figure gets closer to the girl, and her sword slowly rises with the beat of the music. Afterward, very detailed art of a dark forest appears in the background, and then the level ends with the eerie forest as the end screen.
